Ashley Graham wants “kudos” for bringing trendy outfits to “curvy girls” at the perfect time.
The 38-year-old model has launched a new plus-size range with JCPenney – with sizes started at 0X/14W – to offer variety for the warm weather months, and she’s particularly proud of a butter yellow set featuring a button-up top and wide-leg pants.
Ashley had seen a high-fashion designer reveal a similar set for smaller sizes, and she’s glad to have capitalised quickly.
She told PEOPLE magazine: “I got hyped. Everybody talks about how curvy girls get clothes three seasons later.
“We do. But you know what? Kudos to everybody who’s behind this line and kudos to me for pushing this stuff.”
Ashley explained how she collaborated with the JCPenney design team to make sure the items work for plus-size figures.
She added: “It’s all about versatility and pieces that are fun and new.”
Meanwhile, the star’s own tastes have also inspired the new collection.
She said: “When I’m shopping in the spring, I’m thinking about light stuff because I know that I want it to be versatile for summer.
“That’s really what this collection is. It’s a versatility of springing into a new era, but also knowing that some of this can go into summer.”
Ashley previously confessed she spent years hiding her legs under long hemlines, and now looks back with regret because she wishes she’d worn “more miniskirts” when she was younger.
When asked for style advice she would give to her younger self, she told The Sunday Times newspaper: “Make it shorter! I wish I’d worn more mini things in my twenties.
“I only started wearing miniskirts in my late thirties because I had a leg complex. I wish I’d got over it sooner.”
Ashley also shared her best style advice – admitting she would rather be late than leave the house in an outfit that doesn’t feel comfortable.
She said: “I always tell myself, if you’re uncomfortable leaving the house, take that extra ten minutes to change because it’s going to ruin the rest of your day. I’d rather be late.”
