Lucy Liu has recalled her cameo role in Sex and the City
Lucy Liu has been surprised by the impact of her Sex and the City role.
The 57-year-old actress made a brief cameo appearance in the hit TV show earlier in her career, but she still gets reminded of her role by fans.
The Hollywood star told Us Weekly: “It’s so funny because a lot of people have come up to me. I think they didn’t know, like, some people are watching it for the first time.”
In season four of the show, Lucy’s character hired Samantha Jones as her publicist. However, the duo ultimately clashed over a Birkin bag.
Lucy reflected: “It’s so funny because that’s a time were you know about the Birkin and about Samantha’s character.
“It’s such a short moment, but apparently it’s very powerful. And it is really about the branding and how exclusive it is to be able to buy the bag. There’s a waitlist, or they choose who they want to wear their things.
“Obviously it’s very interesting because it kind of is what I’m working on now for Superfakes about those kind of bags and about the fakes, and about the idea of what brands are and how it can accelerate your own brand in real life, and also, ‘What does it mean?’ and how people are also buying fake items, whether they’re watches or bags … to elevate themselves.”
Lucy plays a luxury counterfeit dealer entering the black market in Superfakes, and she’s teased details of the drama series.
The actress explained: “It’s not just about that lifestyle. It’s about what gets you to that lifestyle and what your idea of that lifestyle is, and what is the struggle behind that to get there?
“It’s, like, a smaller story within a bigger idea of what’s going on in the world and I guess, in some ways, the obsession with your own profile and how you present in the world, as opposed to how you really [are].”
