Kim Kardashian has joined the team behind new Broadway show The Fear of 13.
Kim Kardashian is making her Broadway debut to try and spark “real conversation about the true meaning of justice”.
The 45-year-old reality star has joined the production team for upcoming stage show The Fear of 13, which tells the true story behind the wrongful conviction of Nick Yarris.
In a statement, she said: “My commitment to criminal justice reform has always been about more than just policy – it’s about people.
“I’ve learned that sometimes the most effective way to change minds is through a powerful story. The Fear of 13 is that story.
“It’s a raw, honest look at Nick Yarris’ wrongful conviction and the systemic failures that kept him behind bars for twenty years.
“I couldn’t be prouder to make my Broadway producing debut with a project that carries such vital weight.”
The show, which stars Adrien Brody and Tessa Thompson, will tell the story of Nick having to spend 22 years on death row before he was exonerated through DNA testing in 2003.
The synopsis for the show reads: “Nick’s got a story to tell you.
“About how a routine traffic stop turned into a conviction for murder. About how he spent the next 22 years on death row.
“About how he finally petitioned the court to ask not for an appeal — but for his execution date. And about what happened next…”
The All’s Fair actress has been an advocate for helping the wrongfully convicted, and she was inspired to join the team.
She explained in an Instagram video: “For the past decade, criminal justice reform has been a deeply personal mission of mine.
“I’ve seen first hand how the system can fail, and I’ve committed myself to fighting for those who have been silenced.”
She noted how theatre is a “unique” artform which can help provoke real change.
She added: “Theatre has a unique power to move us. When you experience a story like this, live, it stays with you. It challenges you to see the human being behind the statistics.”
Back in 2022, Kim made it clear she wanted to dedicate her time to helping those in a similar position to Yarris.
She told Hong Kong’s Vogue magazine: “I’m very passionate about Criminal Justice Reform and I want to advocate for those who I feel they were wrongfully convicted. I dream of one day creating a successful law firm.”
