Brenda Song has explained how Running Point has transformed her career.
Brenda Song was at a “crossroads” before landing a part in Running Point.
The 38-year-old actress plays Ali Lee, a chief of staff, in the Netflix series, which focuses on a reformed party girl who runs a professional basketball team, and Brenda admits that the show has transformed her career.
Speaking to Extra, she explained: “I always said I’ve worked my whole life for this moment being able to work on a project where I love the subject matter so much, being such a huge [Los Angeles] Lakers fan.”
Brenda admits that the role arrived at the perfect time in her life.
The actress also relished the experience of working with Mindy Kaling and Kate Hudson on the project.
She said: “I was actually at such a crossroads just feeling like, ‘I just had two kids.’ Just feeling like, ‘Where do I fit in this industry?’ And chatting with Mindy and working with Kate, these two women inspire me on such a personal level outside of all of this craziness.
“It has been such a wonderful experience, and I just hope we get to keep doing it.”
Earlier this month, Brenda hailed Running Point as a “dream” project.
The actress revealed that she loves being part of the Mindy Kaling-created show.
She told People: “When I heard Mindy Kaling was doing an untitled basketball project starring Kate Hudson, I was like, ‘What do I need to do? Do I need to give blood to be a part of this show? This is my dream.'”
Brenda said her passion for the show stems from a lifelong love of basketball, and in particular the LA Lakers, having become a fan when Kobe Bryant was drafted to the team in 1996.
The actress – who began her career at the age of six, working as a child model – said: “Kobe’s the reason that I became a hardcore Lakers fan, and for those 20 years, I watched 82 games a year, I listened to it on the radio.
“They had to put a monitor under the Suite Life bleachers so I could watch it, because I would need to know what the score was. I loved it so much.”
