Melanie C reveals how Spice Girls fame changed her life

Melanie C has explained how fame changed her life in the mid-90s.

Melanie C’s “real life was put on hold” when she found fame with the Spice Girls.

The 52-year-old singer shot to stardom in the Spice Girls alongside Mel B, Emma Bunton, Geri Horner, and Victoria Beckham in the 90s, and Melanie quickly accepted that her life had changed forever.

Melanie – who was known as Sporty Spice at the time – told the Guardian newspaper: “Although all of my wildest dreams were coming true through being part of the Spice Girls, real life was put on hold. The schedule was brutal. There was very little time for socialising.”

Melanie was a self-confessed hardcore raver during her younger years. But her career with the Spice Girls changed her lifestyle.

Melanie shared: “I discovered raving on my first holiday without parents, just me and three of the girls I was at college with. This was the first environment I’d been in where I heard house music and everyone was dancing, and really expressing themselves. I was like, ‘Oh my God, I’ve found my people.’ That’s where I got the bug.

“Then we’d also go to a club in Essex called Berwick Manor. I also remember going to the Cross, which was in King’s Cross. It was such a tiny little window of my late teens because the Spice Girls happened so quickly after it. I’d almost compartmentalised it and left it behind until I started DJing eight years ago.”

Melanie C previously revealed that she feels “super inspired” by DJing.

The pop star is a fan of “so many genres of music” and Melanie revealed that she’s keen to fuse different types of music together.

During an appearance on The Rebecca Judd Show on Apple Music 1, Melanie said: “I’m a pop artist, but I love my dance music.

“I love so many genres of music, but right now DJing, I’m super inspired by that and I really want to bring my work as a DJ and my solo work as an artist a bit closer together.”

Melanie also admitted that she feels more nervous DJing than singing live.

She said: “I still feel really new to it and it’s technical.

“There are so many things that can go wrong and I’m still learning.”
