Selma Blair hoping to return to Met Gala after 20-year absence

Actress Selma Blair has confessed she’s hoping to return to the Met Gala “one day” after a 20-year absence because she has “wonderful memories” of the glitzy event in New York City.

Selma Blair hopes to return to the Met Gala “one day” after a 20-year absence.

The Cruel Intentions star, 53, has revealed she used to be a regular at the glitzy event in New York City, but she hopes to get back on the red carpet in future because she has “wonderful memories” of the party at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Selma told Us Weekly: “I used to be a big Met Gala attendee. I haven’t attended in many years, but I have wonderful memories of it. My first time was with Behnaz Sarafpour, then I went a couple years with Chanel and more recently, I think, with Marc Jacobs – but that was probably 20 years ago. So I love it.”

The 2026 Met Gala takes place on Monday (04.05.26) and Selma admitted she will be watching the event from home, telling the publication: “I love watching what everyone’s wearing and I will be watching [on Monday].”

Selma has spent the last few years battling multiple sclerosis [MS] since being diagnosed with the auto-immune condition – which affects the central nervous system – in 2018 but after undergoing chemotherapy and stem cell treatment, she hasn’t suffered a relapse for some time and she feels “very lucky”.

She told Stellar magazine of being in remission: “That, of course, means the world to me that I’m not, at this moment, accumulating more damage in my brain. I have also made a lot of strides with the vibe of neuroplasticity.

“I’m very, very lucky. Everyone’s experience with MS is different.”

The 53-year-old actress is keen to speak about the condition as much as possible in order to raise awareness. She said: “I think I do have a certain place [to speak publicly]. My big mouth likes to see what I can do about stigma.” And now, Selma can’t wait to get back to work. She teased: “There are some [roles] coming up that I never saw coming. I am excited about getting back into movies.”

Last year, Selma revealed she now has more “stamina and energy” and she feels better able to get out and about.

She told PEOPLE: “I am doing amazingly well. I’ve been feeling great for about a year. But I am finally well enough to really, genuinely … I always try and feel my best, but now that I actually have stamina and energy and getting out and going out isn’t so scary.”

Selma’s improving health also allowed the actress to start making plans for her future. She said: “It’s funny, I haven’t spent enough time having dreams. And now it’s like, ‘What are my dreams?’

“I think maybe since the diagnosis. You’re just tired all the time. I spent so much of my life so tired from being unwell that I think I just was trying to get through the day. And now it’s like, wait, I realise I don’t know what my goals are.”
