Pop star Kesha takes a vial of her mother’s placenta everywhere she goes after having it made into a necklace.
Kesha turned her mother’s placenta into a necklace.
The 39-year-old pop star has revealed her mom Rosemary ordered doctors not to throw away her placenta when she gave birth to her daughter explaining the new mother took it home, baked it and stored it in a box in the family’s basement for two decades before Kesha rediscovered it and had it made into a piece of jewellery that she now carries everywhere with her.
The Tik Tok star made the revelation during an appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast after she lost the necklace during the interview. Kesha explained: “So your placenta supposedly gives you second sight, helps open your third eye. This is according to my mother. So she stuck it in the oven. She put it in a box, and she found it when I was like 21 years old in the basement …
“She fought for that [to stop the doctors throwing it away], so now I carry it around … “
She added of making the placenta into jewellery: “Throw it in the blender, pop it in a necklace. Work!”
Kesha went on to say: “I love a good ritual. Right? Like, I’m a cult leader … And I just, I love a ritual that reminds me of this, like, esoteric world I prefer to live in.
“Like down here on Earth, boring. But like, when I go up into, like, with my spirit guides and the whole realm of angels. Like, that’s where I prefer to be. It’s kind of fun.”
Kesha also collects teeth and has them made into jewellery revealing she has specimens from her loved ones as well as her beloved cats.
She said: “It just reminds me when I have a little piece of the people I love. I’ve been collecting them for a while now … I have my cats had to get their little teeth taken out because they were I don’t know.
“They’re little kitty wisdom teeth. I collect those too. I’m like the tooth fairy.”
It comes after Kesha recently revealed she dumped her boyfriend after being released from her recording contract with Kemosabe in December 2023, six months after her long-running legal battle with producer Dr Luke came to an end, and as soon as she heard the news, she began removing other things from her life that didn’t make her “feel free”.
She told Rolling Stone’s Music Now podcast: “When I got this insane call that I was gonna be free in three months’ time, it was like being in a movie. It was such an insane phone call to get. And from that moment onward, I’ve just been on 11. So it’s crazy, but I’m good and I feel very alive…
“Literally the second I got that call, I looked around and was like, ‘Anything that does not make me feel free has to go.’
“So I called the guy I was dating and very lovingly was like, this is not it. I went to the woods, I started meditating heavily.
“It’s been this obsession for me to try to see what makes me feel free and what doesn’t, including the stuff in my house. I don’t wanna be beholden to a genre of music.
“Being blonde to be a pop star – it was frying my hair. That doesn’t make me feel free. I’m gonna have f****** roots, goddammit.
“Anything that I feel beholden to, even subconsciously that I’m maybe not even aware of, I’ve started really trying to analyse what feels good and what doesn’t.”
