Kylie Minogue felt ‘impressionable in the best way’ when she first met Michael Hutchence

Kylie Minogue has reflected on her romance with the late INXS singer.

Kylie Minogue was impressionable “in the best possible way” when she met Michael Hutchence.

The 57-year-old pop icon was 21 years old when she dated the late INXS singer – who died aged 37 in 1997 – from 1989 to 1991, and she has reflected on their romance in her new documentary series.

As reported by the Daily Mail newspaper, in upcoming Netflix series Kylie, she said: “I was 21 when we met — and really impressionable… I mean that in the best possible way.”

The I Should Be So Lucky hitmaker described her former flame as “kind”, “deep” and “artistic”.

She added: “He just had such an impact on me. He was a smart, kind, deep, artistic and interesting human.

“We went on this beautiful journey of a relationship. His passing in 1997 was a loss to so many, including myself.”

In the three-part docuseries, Kylie has also reflected on the new experiences Hutchence opened her up to as she took her “first big steps into adulthood”.

She said: “People wonder why I’m still so moved… it’s for many reasons. One of those is that he was one of my first big steps into adulthood, into the wider world.

“A world of possibility and discovery. Travel, literature, excess, connections, art, artistry, expression, performance and on and on the list goes! I was the perfect age for that moment.”

Kylie previously revealed she was left horrified at the thought that someone may have taken a piece of jewellery he gifted her when it vanished from her house.

However, it was later returned to her by an “anonymous” sender after his death.

She told The Sunday Times newspaper in 2023: “I was given a ring by Michael Hutchence when we were dating. It went missing from my house, and I hated the idea that someone I knew had ‘taken’ it. A long time later and after his passing, it was posted back to me anonymously in an envelope. I think that he, in an otherworldly way, returned it to me.”

Kylie started her romance with Hutchence after dating Neighbours co-star Jason Donovan, before relationships with Stephane Sednaoui, Oliver Martinez and James Gooding.

In 2017, she called off her engagement to Joshua Sasse, and later insisted dismissed the idea she is “unlucky” in love.

She told Vogue Australia: “There’s a level of acceptance that that’s the way it is, and I think mostly it’s driven by, we all love a bit of gossip. It’s kind of like, what would’ve happened over the fence forever ago. But it would be great to move on from the ‘she’s lucky in love, she’s unlucky in love’, because it’s just not that simple.”
