Jason Momoa ‘departs Helldivers movie’ but what does the film’s future look like now?

Jason Momoa has departed the PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures’ film adaptation of video game Helldivers, and Sony are said to have started their search for a replacement.

Jason Momoa has departed movie Helldivers.

The Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom star was expected to appear in the PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures’ film adaptation of the video game.

However, sources have told Deadline that Momoa is exiting the motion picture, which is to be directed by Justin Lin.

But it is not known why he has left the project.

Sony is now said to have started its search for a new leading man, and Helldivers is still expected to drop in cinemas on November 10, 2027.

However, the plot details for the film are yet to have been revealed.

In February, Momoa was said to have signed up to appear in Helldivers, which is based on the video game that launched in 2015 and its sequel Helldivers 2, which sold more than 12 million units.

The video game centred on an elite group of soldiers – known as Helldivers – who must battle alien creatures threatening to destroy the fictional planet of Super Earth.

Gary Dauberman, the writer behind It and Annabelle horror films, wrote the initial script for the project which attracted Lin’s attention.

Hutch Parker, Asad Qizilbash and Lin are producing the movie.

Momoa’s son, Nakoa-Wolf Momoa, 17 – whose mother is Jason’s ex-wife Lisa Bonet – is also an actor.

He appeared in Dune: Part Three, which also features his famous father, Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Rebecca Ferguson – but Jason has insisted his boy isn’t a nepo baby.

Last year, the Game of Thrones star explained to Extra: “He’s into the workforce for the first time. It’s going to be good.

“He did it on his own. I don’t want to help him, and he’s done it all on his own, and good for him.”

In Dune: Part Three, Nakoa-Wolf and Silo star Ida Brooke respectively portrayed Leto II Atreides and Ghanima Atreides, the twin children of Chalamet and Zendaya’s characters Paul Atreides and Chani.
