Millie Bobby Brown fell into a “slight depression” when the Stranger Things finale aired, and she spent the beginning of the year making sure to “mend” things with her castmates to ensure they all stay friends.
Millie Bobby Brown spent January making sure to “mend” relationships with her Stranger Things co-stars.
The 22-year-old actress, who starred as Eleven in the hit Netflix sci-fi series, has recalled the fallout to the end of the show, which concluded with its final episode The Rightside Up on New Year’s Day.
She told the Happy Sad Confused podcast: “I went into a little bit of a slight, slight depression.
“It was very hard for me. I would not have expected that coming off of the show. I’m a very happy-go-lucky person.”
She decided to “mend” any unresolved issues with her castmates, and make sure they would all stay in touch even after Stranger Things was over.
She added: “They probably thought I was crazy. I was like, ‘We’re still friends, right? Like, you’re not gonna stop talking to me anymore?’
“I was like, ‘I’m sorry if I ever upset you,’ and was just trying to mend anything. ‘It’s been 10 years, and I really want to be friends. You’re my sibling.’
“And then I was on the beach, it was beautiful, and I just sat there crying. It was a very hard time for me.”
Millie noted “no one will ever understand” the experience of being on Stranger Things from such a young age alongside the likes of fellow child stars Finn Wolfhard (Mike Wheeler), Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin Henderson), Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas Sinclair) and Noah Schnapp (Will Byers).
She explained: “I started the show when I was 10, and this character was me, and these people were in my life more than my own family.
“I saw these people more than going home and eating dinner with my family.
“Saying goodbye to that after 10 years was a very, very emotional thing, and I’m going to miss Eleven more than anything.”
Stranger Things ended on a bombshell which has left fans divided, as the fate of Eleven is yet to actually be confirmed.
Despite initially suggesting she has died, the series actually concludes with Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard) imagining a future where she survives, and creators Matt and Ross Duffer have encouraged fans to make up their own minds.
Millie admitted she and the Duffers are the only three people who know the truth, and they text her after the finale aired to remind her to keep it a secret.
She said: “They were like, ‘Do not tell anyone. Because we made it a secret kind of pledge’.
“No one else knows. It’s just us three. And what we do with that information, it’ll be up to them.”
