CMAT to take full year off live shows in 2027 as she warns she’s ‘so close to burnout’

CMAT says she will step away from performing live throughout 2027 after admitting she’s nearing burnout and needs time to recover.

CMAT is pressing pause on live music next year, revealing she’ll take all of 2027 off the road as she battles exhaustion.

The 30‑year‑old singer‑songwriter – real name Ciara Mary‑Alice Thompson – opened up on the Sidetracked podcast about how relentless touring has pushed her to breaking point.

She said: “I’d love the concept of a holiday to be introduced to me at some point in my life.

“You are in control of your own career, but unfortunately you also, as a musician, make a lot of plans about one-and-a-half years ahead of time that you can’t get out of.”

She explained that she’s carving out a rare stretch of downtime later this year.

CMAT said: “I have a month off in October now, because I’m so close to burnout that we decided to just do one week of Austin City Limits. So I get the whole month of October off, so I’m thinking of going somewhere.”

She then announced: “I’m not doing any live music next year. The next calendar year, of 2027, I’m not performing any live music at all. I don’t know if I was supposed to say that, but that’s what’s happening. And I don’t care – you can come fight me if you want.”

Even when she’s not touring, CMAT admitted she hasn’t been resting.

She said: “I’m literally losing my mind – and I don’t stop. I was like a gremlin chained to the mixing desk being like, ‘I have to make a good album!’”

As things stand, her final show of 2026 is set to be Primavera Sound São Paulo in December.

One of the highlights of her year – and no doubt her career – recently happened when CMAT got to support her idol, Robbie Williams, in Luxembourg.

The 30-year-old star opened for the former Take That star when his BRITPOP tour came to Luxexpo Open Air on July 6.

The pair posed backstage with CMAT donning an Oasis-themed “Robbie” t-shirt.

CMAT even joked that the A in CMAT stands for the Angels lyric “And through it all”.

She captioned the Instagram post: “the A in CMAT stands for And through it allllllllllll

“I’ve loved you forever Robbie. (sic)”

Their meeting prompted fans to call for the pair to collaborate.

One fan wrote: “We’re gonna need that bestselling duet right now… x.”

Another said: “Love this you can duet with something stupid or kids (sic).”
