The Duke of Sussex reportedly told guests at the Time100 Sports Gala that his father is recovering well while also sharing a glimpse into family life with Meghan Markle and their children following a visit to the UK.
Prince Harry is said to have offered a rare public update on King Charles’s health and his family life during a surprise appearance at the Time100 Sports Gala in New York.
The Duke of Sussex, 41, reportedly told guests that his father is “doing great” as he continues treatment for cancer.
Harry, 41, also apparently said his wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, 44, and their children, Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, were “happy” to be back home in California following their recent visit to the UK. The comments, reported by Page Six, came during a high-profile appearance centred on the Invictus Games, the sporting competition Harry founded in 2014 for wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans.
Harry, whose relationship with the Royal family has remained under intense public scrutiny since stepping back from royal duties in 2020, was an unexpected guest at the gala, where he joined leading figures from the sporting world including LeBron James, Russell Wilson, Alysa Liu, Lindsey Vonn and Dancing With the Stars professional Witney Carson.
The appearance followed Harry’s reported reunion with King Charles, 77, during a recent visit to Britain. The Duke has remained estranged from his brother, Prince William, 44, while continuing to divide his time between charitable work, including the Invictus Games, and projects with Meghan through their California-based Archewell Foundation.
Harry has also remained in the spotlight following the lasting impact of his memoir Spare and his Netflix documentary series Harry and Meghan.
According to Page Six, Harry told guests about his young family: “The kids are growing like weeds.”
The outlet also reported Harry said King Charles was “doing great”, while reportedly adding Meghan and the children were “happy” to be back home in California after their brief stay in Britain.
Earlier in the evening, Harry also spoke to Page Six on the red carpet following England’s defeat to Argentina in the FIFA World Cup semi-final.
Asked about the result, Harry said “of course” he was upset by England’s exit from the tournament.
During the gala, the duke took to the stage to speak about the power of sport and the continuing work of the Invictus Games, the international competition he established after serving for a decade in the British Army.
He said: “It’s truly an honor to be here tonight to celebrate the power of sport.
“I don’t just mean the big wins and historic moments. I mean the tough loses, the sacrifices, the moments that no one ever sees.
“Sport is where you first felt the essence of teamwork and community. It shaped your discipline, your drive and your very identity. It taught you to revel in the challenges and the joy of overcoming or defining the odds.”
Harry continued: “For many of you, sport shaped who you became. For me, sports instilled essential core values from a very young age. But it didn’t shape my identity as a young man; the British army did.”
Reflecting on his own experiences after leaving military service, Harry said: “Sport isn’t just entertainment and competition – sport is medicine.”
Guests at the event also saw Harry meet New York Knicks captain Jalen Brunson, with the pair shaking hands and posing for photographs.
According to Page Six, the gala came shortly after Harry’s reported reunion with members of the Royal family during a visit to Britain.
The outlet reported Buckingham Palace announced King Charles and Queen Camilla, 78, hosted Harry, Meghan and their children at Highgrove House, marking the King’s first reported meeting with Archie and Lilibet since 2022.
Meghan and the children did not make any public appearances during the visit.
Harry and Meghan stepped back as senior working royals in 2020 before relocating to Montecito, California.
Since then, Harry has continued his charitable work through the Invictus Games while also publishing Spare, in which he detailed longstanding tensions within the Royal family.
Despite the reported family reunion, Harry is still understood to be estranged from Prince William.
