Actor Robert Pattinson has revealed he wanted to wear “the most luxurious underpants” while he was filming The Odyssey because he was convinced his character Antinous would be partial to “cheetah” printed underwear.

The 40-year-old actor plays villainous Antinous in Sir Christopher Nolan’s new epic blockbuster and he’s convinced the character would have approved of “cheetah” printed underwear.
During an appearance on the TODAY show, he explained: “As soon as I read the script, I’m like: ‘I want to have cheetah underpants’.
“I think Antinous is that kind of guy. He has this kind of sensuousness about him; ‘I just like pleasure.’ And so I was kind of thinking you want to have the most luxurious underpants he can.”
Robert’s confession comes as The Odyssey’s costume designer Ellen Mirojnick opened up about the looks seen on screen revealing the designs were created to look “timeless” rather than trying to be historically acurate.
She told WWD: “You’re not doing a museum-worthy representation, but an interpretation of the text. You create a new mythology that’s based in reality.”
Mirojnick revealed Matt Damon’s costume for his role as Odysseus was constantly changing to symbolise his journey and she embraced “simplicity”.
She said: “What makes him compelling from a costume perspective is that he’s never static.
“Most epic heroes arrive and they’re done. They’re visually complete. But Odysseus deteriorates, he reconstructs, he disguises, he adapts, he transforms, and he survives. So his costume language therefore had to become evolutionary, without you actually noticing …
“What that simplicity enabled me to do was actually create a silhouette that could become anything. The combination of leather and bronze and linen enabled us to create many different silhouettes and shapes with those fabrics. We see the strength and his vulnerability, his weaknesses and his deterioration – particularly when the armor comes off.”
Mirojnick explained Zendaya’s costume for her role as the goddess Athena was mostly “layers” of linen that could be rearranged depending on the scene, explaining: “We could make [it] into any different form depending on the world that she entered.
“Every bit of the draping could be done in a way to make you feel, more than looking.”
She added that Anne Hathaway’s character of Penelope wore jewel colours and a lot of draping to reflect her “quiet power”, saying: “There is a power, but a very quiet power, that we needed to relay, and so we did it through texture and draping.”
