Busted star James Bourne has revealed that he is “still not out of the woods” as he battles a mystery illness that forced him to have surgery to “extend his life” earlier this year.
Busted star James Bourne has said that he is “still not out of the woods” as he battles a mystery illness.
The 42-year-old musician withdrew from the Busted vs McFly tour last year for health reasons before revealing in April that he was undergoing surgery to “extend his life” – and he has now disclosed that the issue hasn’t been completely resolved as he provided a rare update for fans where he promised to explain what has been going on at a later date.
James wrote in a new post on X: “As I’m taking a break from the gram, I’ll be posting an update soon about what’s going on with my health in my Spotify bio.
“It’s a long story. Still not out of the woods yet. Thank you for your support and patience.”
James had recently explained how he was determined to finish working on the album Murder At The Gates – which was released earlier this month and created for a brand new musical with legendary American playwright Steven Sater – despite his health worries.
He told The Sun newspaper: “I didn’t want my health to stop me from promoting this project because I’ve put 13 years of my life into it.
“There was a fear of not finishing it. But I knew I had to finish it and give this to the people.
“There’s like a few people that have been waiting for it. There are hardcore fans who show up to everything – and I have been speaking about this for a long time.
“It feels so good to now have this as a finished product. And it’s the first album I’ve ever produced. So I’m proud of it.”
Bourne’s Busted bandmate Matt Willis explained earlier this year that the star was “on the mend” following the “major surgery”.
During an appearance on UK TV show Good Morning Britain in April, he said: “It happened quite quickly, he got ill just before the tour started …
“So we put something out there. But he put something out recently, an update of how he is getting on. Yeah, he’s not very well, but he’s getting better. He’s on the mend.”
