The comedian and actor co-wrote and starred in the beloved sitcom, which told the story of 12-year-old Martin Moone as he navigating the challenges of childhood in rural Ireland alongside an imaginary friend called Sean.
Chris played Sean in the show, which ran for three seasons from 2012 to 2015, and reflected on fans’ continued pleas for a reboot during an interview with the Roscommon Herald.
Asked if he’d be up for reprising the role for a reboot, Chris replied: “Martin would be older and be kind of hanging out with girls and all of that kind of stuff. I don’t know if it would be a bit weird if he had an imaginary friend there.
“But never say never. It was such a fun time. I got to work with a bunch of the guys from the show again on Small Town, Big Story.
“I’d love to bring back some of those Moone Boy vibes as well. You never know.”
Chris is currently busy starring in Conor McPherson play The Brightening Air in Dublin, Ireland – reprising his role from the original 2025 London production, for which he achieved critical acclaim.
While he has performed in the play countless times, Chris added that taking it to Ireland has given things a different feel.
He said: “This play has been a very enjoyable experience. It feels much easier because at least you know that the play works.
“It feels like it’s been marinating now. We’ve got new cast members who bring a fresh light to some of those scenes. It feels like a proper stew. Everything is tenderised now. All the flavours are working together because they’ve been mixing for so long.”
Chris can be seen in The Brightening Air at Dublin’s Gate Theatre until August 30.
