Earth, Wind and Fire were set to support Lionel Richie at his Chase Center show in San Francisco on Thursday (06.08.26) as part of his Sing A Song All Night Long Tour.
Earth, Wind and Fire was forced to cancel its show with Lionel Richie after a band member suffered from a “medical emergency”.
The group was due to support the 77-year-old singer at his Chase Center show in San Francisco on Thursday (06.08.26) as part of his Sing A Song All Night Long Tour, and they are expected to announce a rescheduled date soon.
In a statement posted on Instagram that day, the September hitmakers said: “We are unable to perform as scheduled tonight at Chase Center in San Francisco due to a medical emergency involving a member of our band.
“As a result, tonight’s show with Lionel Richie will be rescheduled, with a new date to be announced soon. Ticket holders should retain their tickets, which will be honored for the new date, or refunds will be available at the point of purchase.
“We sincerely apologize for the unexpected change and appreciate everyone’s understanding.”
Earth, Wind and Fire did not reveal which member had the medical emergency.
Last month, Lionel returned to the stage following a health scare that brought the opening week of his Sing A Song All Night Long Tour to an unexpected halt.
According to the Minnesota Star Tribune, the four-time Grammy winner had been performing Dancing on the Ceiling during the opening night of the tour in St Paul, Minnesota, when he began feeling dizzy and took a seat on stage before leaving the performance early.
Lionel resumed his show in Pittsburgh following the postponement of scheduled performances in Chicago, Illinois, and Columbus, Ohio, after doctors advised him to rest.
Updating fans after returning to the stage in Pittsburgh and Detroit, the All Night Long (All Night) artist penned on Instagram: “Thank you for every message, every kind word, and for all your love.
“I’m doing well, and I’m grateful for all of you.”
He added: “Pittsburgh and Detroit were an absolute joy. The energy, the dancing, the faces in the crowd… we made real memories together. See you in Toronto… let’s party all night long.”
Before returning to the stage, promoters announced Lionel had postponed two performances after receiving medical advice to rest.
In a statement shared by Live Nation Chicago and the United Center on Instagram, organisers said: “Under advisement by doctors to rest and return to full health, Lionel Richie has postponed his show on Friday, June 26, in Chicago, IL, and Saturday, June 27, in Columbus, OH.
“He and Earth, Wind and Fire will return to the stage on Tuesday, June 30, in Pittsburgh, PA. Lionel is heartbroken to postpone these two shows and cannot wait to be back to performing for his fans.”
