Katey Sagal and Kurt Sutter welcomed their daughter Esme via surrogate in 2007.
Katey Sagal had another baby at the age of 52 after initially warning her younger husband she had “five minutes left” to have children.
The actress, now 72, welcomed her daughter Esme with her husband, Kurt Sutter, via surrogate in 2007, after telling the screenwriter-and-director, now 66, that she could not wait too long for him to decide whether he wanted children because of her age and declining fertility.
On the latest episode of 78-year-old Ted Danson’s Where Everybody Knows Your Name podcast, she said: “I had a child at 52 through a surrogate, but I became a mother again at 52.
“My husband is six years younger than I am. And when we met, he was like, ‘I don’t wanna have any kids.’ And I was like, ‘OK, ‘cause I have about five minutes left if you wanna have kids.'”
Kurt changed his mind after thinking about it for several years.
Katey said: “About five years in, we started really talking about it, and so we did the whole surrogate process. This is Esme, my sweet Esme, who’s 19. She’s my favourite right now. Kids, I love you all.”
The Married… With Children star also has daughter Sarah, 31, and son Jackson, 30, with her ex-husband, actor Jack White.
Despite her age, Katey still feels “very sexual”, which she did not expect at 72.
Cheers alum Ted asked the Shameless entertainer: “What should I know about you?”
She responded: “I’m very sexual, Ted. I’m at this age of my life and still into it.”
Ted replied: “I’m f*****. OK.” before he admitted to being the “exact opposite” at the age of 78, but stressed that he was still “madly in love” with his of 31 years, 73-year-old actress Mary Steenburgen.
The Good Place cast member has always found it hard to believe that someone would be interested in him.
He explained: “Me talking about how I would be out in the world is like a distant, bad memory kind of thing. But growing up, the girl would have to be naked, standing in front of me, and I would still be going, ‘Who? Me? … It sucks.”
Katey found Ted’s response “so sweet”, but he disagreed, joking: “When you say. ‘I’m very sexual,’ I’m starting to sweat.”
The Big Bang Theory actress said she still finds her husband Kurt “super hot”, but he would never describe himself in that way.
Katey added: “That’s what makes him so great, I think. I don’t like dudes that think they’re so hot.”
The Sons of Anarchy star likes being open about sex because she wants to challenge the idea that intimacy disappears with age.
Katey explained: “I think what’s important about saying that, and I say that somewhat facetiously, but it is true. I think that when I was growing up, I thought that by the time I’d get to this age of my life … that [sex] would be a distant memory, and it’s not that.
“I think that the more that’s spoken about, I think that’s a good thing.”
