Ed Sheeran didn’t think he’d go on to write multiple hits when he first played the US off the back off his debut hit The A Team.
Ed Sheeran has admitted he thought The A Team would be his “only hit”.
The Grammy winner brought his Loop Tour to Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium on Saturday (08.08.26) and reflected on the “full-circle moment” of his first show in the US being at the nearby Savoy Entertainment Center in Inglewood 16 years ago.
Before performing his 2011 debut single, Ed told the crowd: “I played this song that night in Inglewood at the Savoy. This song has been with me for the last 16 years of my career. I’ve played this song at every single gig since then. This song became a slow burn hit throughout the world. I thought this song would be my only hit. I was happy if it was my only hit, because I love this song. But 16 years later, people are still filling up venues of this size to sing this song with me and I love that tonight is in Inglewood. My first show in America was in Inglewood. It feels like a nice full circle moment.”
Ed has gone on to have even bigger hits, including Shape of You, Perfect and Thinking Out Loud.
The musician recently admitted he was “jealous” of Alex Warren’s 2025 smash hit Ordinary during a surprise duet at his Loop Tour show at Petco Park in San Diego.
The 35-year-old singer-songwriter opened up to the crowd about reaching out to the 25-year-old artist after being captivated by the track.
He told fans: “I met someone last year who released a song that I was jealous of. I loved the song.
“I got in touch with him, and I was like, ‘We should sing this song together, I love this song.’ He sent me an email yesterday and said, ‘Can me and my family come to your gig in San Diego?’ And I was like, yes, but I would like to sing with you.”
Ordinary spent 11 consecutive weeks at No.1 on the UK charts, marking the longest-running No.1 by a US male solo artist in over seven decades and tying with Ed’s own Bad Habits for the decade’s joint longest-running chart-topper.
