Vinnie Jones links cancer to sugar consumption

Vinnie Jones believes cancer and other health issues are “all related to sugar”.

The Gentleman actor’s beloved wife Tanya had battled cervical cancer before she died from skin cancer in 2019, while he has also been treated for melanoma, and has subsequently noticed how much better he feels when he cuts the sweet substance out of his diet.

Noting Matthew Vaughn suggested the link to him a decade ago, he told the Daily Telegraph: “I think cancers and that are all related to sugar.

“I get all the stiffness in my arms, from the throw-ins and the fights and the f****** golf. But if I have a week off sugar, I feel 10 years younger.”

The 61-year-old former footballer has always been staunchly anti-drugs, with his stance hardened by the fact Tanya had a heart transplant at the age of 21, and he admitted there was one occasion when he had a “punch-up” in his home after he found guests taking cocaine.

He said: “When I was playing football, I was never going to f*** it up by failing a Monday drug test.

“Tanya had to take medicine every day to keep her alive, to stop her body rejecting her heart.

“So I would have blow-ups with f****** who were abusing drugs for recreational use.”

Vinnie has been convicted of various offenses in the past, which he admitted were “all booze-fuelled” but he’s been sober for 14 years after one final bar fight and the realisation he had to face Tanya, the “real judge”.

He recalled: “I woke up chained, literally chained, to the bed after getting 68 stitches in my head…

“The police and jail didn’t bother me. My punishment was Tan’s disappointment. I could see it in her eyes. She’d say: ‘We can’t keep doing this.’”

Vinnie previously declared it “impossible” for him to settle down with another woman after Tanya’s death, but he has since found love with his former assistant Emma Ford, for which he feels “incredibly lucky”.

He said: “I think we can talk too soon. Tanya was a beautiful soul, and so is Emma. Good-looking too!

“I’m incredibly lucky to have met her, but she’d say the universe brought us together.”

Emma has also been sober for 10 years, and the couple keep busy so they don’t miss drinking.

Vinnie said: “I’m so busy that when I get into the shower at the end of the day, I’m already yawning. I just fall into bed.”
