Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s daughter Vivienne has taken the next step towards dropping the surname Pitt, after filing her original petition in July.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s daughter Vivienne has taken the next step towards dropping the surname Pitt.
Vivienne filed the initial petition to change her legal name from Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt to Vivienne Marcheline Jolie in Los Angeles County Superior Court on July 21, less than two weeks after she and her twin brother Knox turned 18.
Now, PEOPLE reports that she has obtained proof of publication after publishing a legal notice in the Los Angeles Daily Journal on July 24, July 31, Aug. 7 and Aug. 14.
This is a required step for a name change under California law.
Court documents regarding Vivienne’s proof of publication state that any person who objects to the name change “must file a written objection that includes the reason for the objection at least two court days before the matter is scheduled to be heard.”
That person must also appear in person at a court hearing, set for November 2, where Vivienne’s petition will be discussed further.
Vivienne listed the reason for the name change as “personal” in her court documents.
Her filing follows similar legal action taken by several of Brad Pitt and Angeline Jolie’s other children.
Shiloh successfully petitioned a Los Angeles court in May 2024 to remove Pitt from her surname after turning 18.
Maddox also filed legal paperwork in May 2026 requesting that Pitt be removed from his surname, likewise citing personal reasons.
Before that filing, he had already been credited professionally as Maddox Jolie while working as an assistant director on the film Couture, which starred Angelina.
The report also states Zahara filed paperwork on 9 June seeking to legally change her name from Zahara Jolie-Pitt to Zahara Jolie.
Knox has not publicly filed for a legal name change, but Page Six previously reported he used the name Knox Jolie on his high school diploma after graduating from Fusion Academy in Los Angeles.
Vivienne had already stopped publicly using the Pitt surname in 2024, when she was credited as Vivienne Jolie in the Playbill for the Broadway production of The Outsiders, which she helped Angelina produce.
Despite the reported distance between several of the children and Brad, it was reported previously that Pax continues to maintain relationships with members of his father’s extended family.
A source told the New York Post’s Page Six: “Pax still has a relationship with his dad’s side of the family and continues to spend time with them.”
The insider added: “He recently joined his family as they went out to dinner and celebrated his cousin Sydney’s engagement to Archimede Jerome.”
According to the report, Brad’s sister, Julie Pitt Neal, also attended the family gathering, along with his niece Reagan Pitt and other relatives.
A second source told Page Six that while Pax “still has a relationship” with members of his paternal family, he “doesn’t have much of a relationship with Brad”.
Angelina and Brad ended one of Hollywood’s most closely watched relationships when the actress filed for divorce in 2016.
Their divorce finally went through in December 2024, concluding more than eight years of legal proceedings. The former couple share six children – Maddox, 24, Pax, 22, Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 20, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 18.
Angelina, whose recent work has included portraying opera legend Maria Callas in Maria, has remained in the spotlight through her film career and humanitarian work.
Brad, meanwhile, has continued acting, most recently starring in F1 and the upcoming Heart of the Beast.
