Hayden Panettiere’s estranged mother clams ‘haters’ after her daughter’s death

Hayden Panettiere‘s mother Lesley Vogel has fired back at people criticising her comments after her daughter’s death.

Hayden Panettiere‘s mother has called out “haters” telling her how to “mourn” her daughter’s death.

Lesley Vogel, 70, has responded to those criticising her comments following the tragic death of the Heroes and Nashville actress aged 36, while Hayden’s brother Jansen died aged 28 in 2023.

She told Good Morning America: “I would say to the haters out there, you don’t have a right to tell me how I mourn the loss of my second child.

“That’s my domain.”

Elsewhere in the interview, she denied comments made by Hayden in her memoir This Is Me: A Reckoning, which was released in May.

In the book, the Scream star claimed that when she was 19 she told Lesley she didn’t want her to manage her career anymore.

She alleged that Lesley responded: “You owe me.”

However, Lesley has now claimed: “I remember being in her trailer and literally saying nothing.

“It was a very short, very brief conversation and then she returned to set. I know I didn’t say what she said I said.”

She also insisted Hayden, from whom she was estranged in later years, had a “happy life” before she got cast in Heroes back in the mid-2000s.

She said: “I would say Hayden had a very happy life up until she got Heroes at 16.

“Here she was the star of a major TV series, but I would say at 17 I started seeing her going downhill.

“As she got older and it wasn’t my voice anymore, I wasn’t in charge of her choices. I tried to give her the best advice I could.

“But again, any young person, teen, they want to be liberated. And I get that.”

Lesley, who insisted Hayden should be remembered for being “talented, beautiful, outgoing [and] intelligent]” rather than her personal struggles, has previously hit out at TV presenters Gayle King and Megyn Kelly, who were among those to criticised her for saying her daughter “sadly lost her way”.

She told the Daily Mail newspaper: “I was very, very hurt and deeply disappointed in the lack of professionalism, the lack of compassion in slamming someone who’s lost two children, without even a modicum of consideration.”

She had previously spoken to NBC News and been critical of her daughter’s on/off boyfriend BRian Hickerson.

She said: “I think Hayden was an amazingly talented person in so many departments and I think young people who grow up in the entertainment industry — it is a struggle and it’s a very challenging industry and it’s not unusual for them to sadly find the wrong path.”

Hayden’s on-again, off-again boyfriend Brian, 37, and his brother Zach Hickerson were at the property when she was found unresponsive, according to a police report.

Authorities have said there were no signs of trauma or foul play, and an official cause and manner of death have not yet been determined.

The Greenville County investigation into Hayden’s death remains ongoing while officials await the results of toxicology testing.
