Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima vows to keep making new games after turning 63

Hideo Kojima has reflected on his future in game development after turning 63, promising to remain focused on creating new games despite concerns about time and ageing.

Hideo Kojima has reaffirmed his commitment to making video games after celebrating his 63rd birthday, saying that he still has more stories and ideas he wants to bring to life.

The legendary developer, best known as the creator of the Metal Gear series and Death Stranding, marked the milestone on social media by reflecting on the challenges of balancing ambition with getting older.

Kojima wrote on X: “As I get older, the things I ‘have to do’ and the things I ‘want to do’ continue to increase. At the same time, the time I ‘have to do them’ continues to decrease.”

The Kojima Productions founder explained that he is constantly reassessing how he spends his time, but added that he does not intend to abandon projects once he commits to them.

He continued: “That said, once you’ve taken something on, you can’t simply put it down and walk away.”

Despite his age, Kojima remains heavily involved in multiple creative projects.

His studio is currently developing OD, a mysterious horror title created in partnership with Xbox, as well as Physint, a new action espionage game that is expected to continue the style of his previous work with Metal Gear.

Neither game currently has a confirmed release date, with reports suggesting Physint may not arrive until around 2030. Kojima Productions is also involved in upcoming Death Stranding adaptations, including a live-action movie and an anime project.

The developer also noted that 2026 represents two major milestones: his 40th anniversary working in game development and the 10th anniversary of Kojima Productions.

Thanking fans for their continued support, Kojima said: “While I continue to receive various opportunities and offers, I would like to remain focused on creating games.”

In 2025, Kojima admitted he had begun thinking about how much longer he could continue creating games.

He questioned how many years he had left as a creative force, describing his career as a race against time.

However, his latest comments suggest retirement is not on the horizon.

With multiple ambitious projects still in development, Kojima appears determined to continue experimenting with new ideas and pushing the boundaries of interactive entertainment.

After nearly four decades in the industry, the developer remains focused on the same goal: creating games that surprise and challenge players.
