The 77-year-old music veteran checked himself into a medical facility after he started feeling unwell during a concert in St. Louis, Missouri on Saturday (29.08.26) and he was treated in an intensive care unit. However, he’s now believed to have been discharged and is recovering at his home in Los Angeles.
A source told the Daily Mail newspaper the singer is “now back home and being doted on’ by his family” adding Lionel “remains optimistic”, is “feeling ok” and is in his “usual jovial mood.”
The publication went on to state Lionel’s children, daughters Nicole and Sofia and son Miles, were extremely worried about him and they’re hoping he will now slow down his work commitments.
A source said: “His daughters, especially, really want him to slow down because he means so much to them, he has always been there for them, he has been like a Super Dad …
“They have worried that Lionel was working too hard with this new tour on the heels of eight seasons of American Idol, which is a super demanding job.”
People.com also reports Lionel is back at home and is “doing great” with the publication suggesting the singer underwent testing for potential cardiac issues while he was under the care of doctors.
Lionel’s health scare came after he started to feel unwell during his gig in St. Louis, asking his team to bring on a chair for him during a rendition of All Night Long.
In late June, the singer was forced to postpone two concerts after falling ill on stage during the first night of the tour.
According to the Minnesota Star Tribune, Lionel had been performing Dancing on the Ceiling during the opening night of the tour in St Paul when he began feeling dizzy and took a seat on stage before leaving the performance early.
Around 40 minutes later, saxophonist Dino Soldo returned to address the audience. Dino said: “Unfortunately, Lionel is not feeling well.
“He won’t be able to continue. Additional information will be available.”
He returned to the stage on June 30, and joked with fans: “You have no idea what I have been through in the last 24 hours, listening to my friends tell me their advice on what I should be doing.”
He later wrote on Instagram: “Thank you for every message, every kind word, and for all your love. “I’m doing well, and I’m grateful for all of you.”
The next show on Lionel’s Sing a Song All Night Long Tour is set for September 26 in San Francisco, California.
