TikTok will let users comment on other people’s posts with voice notes.
TikTok is adding audio messages to its comment section.
The video sharing social media platform is expanding comments on its platform, with voice notes, polls and carousels coming soon with “a series of new updates”.
In a press release, TikTok explained: “Sound and music have shaped TikTok from the very beginning, turning songs into trends and audio clips into jokes shared across the app.
“Now, we’re bringing that same energy to the comment section with Voice Comments, a new way to post and listen to audio messages directly under any video.”
To leave a video comment, users will be able to simply tap the microphone icon in the comment box, and from there record a message “up to 60 seconds long”.
They added: “Once posted, anyone can tap to listen, turning the comment section into a place people can hear as much as read.
“Whether you’re laughing at a meme, singing with a creator, or reacting to a sudden plot twist, Voice Comments make it easy to say what you’re feeling — no typing required.”
The feature will be available globally “over the next month”, but only to users 18 and older.
Another new feature already available around the world is Comment Polls, which are described as “a new way for creators to put decisions directly in their followers’ hands”.
Polls can be added when commenting on your own video by tapping the icon, choosing up to five options, and setting a timeframe for voting.
Also new to TikTok is Photo Carousel Comments and Live Photo Comments.
The platform explained: “With Photo Carousel Comments, people can now add up to 9 photos in a single comment, making it easy to share a full moment instead of just one frame.
“For instance, if someone wants to react to a travel video with their own vacation photos, they no longer have to pick just one, they can drop the whole album in a single comment.”
As for Live Photos, TikTok has teased that they “capture more than a static image, they capture a moment”.
They continued: “With Live Photo Comments, people can upload Live Photos directly from their camera roll, giving the photo comment a brief burst of motion so others get a quick preview of the moment before diving into the full image.
“Live Photo Comments are now available globally, and Photo Carousel Comments are rolling out globally over the next month.”
