Local news outlets reported that Georgina Lightning was standing in a designated media area filming when she was struck by a horse in the freak accident.
Tim Healy has led tributes to his Auf Wiedersehen, Pet co-star Georgina Lightning following her tragic death aged 63.
The actress and director was killed when she was struck by a horse that had veered off course as she filmed at an Indian Relay event held at the Enoch Rodeo Grounds in Canada on Saturday (05.09.26).
Local news outlets reported that Georgina – who played Lainie Proudfoot in four episodes of Auf Wiedersehen, Pet – was standing in a designated media area filming when she was struck in the freak accident.
According to police, she was treated by paramedics at the scene, but unfortunately died before making it to the hospital.
Tim, who played Dennis Patterson in Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, was among the first to remember Georgina, as he wrote on X: “RIP Georgina lovely lady and a joy to work with.”
As well as being a successful screen star and filmmaker, Georgina was a mum-of-three, with her daughter Crystle posting a heartbreaking tribute to her mother shortly after news broke of her passing.
She wrote” “Today she made her way to the spirit world and I am in shock. I am shattered in every way possible.
“I have lost my mother, my sons Kohkum, my matriarch, my role model, my confidant. That’s all I can say right now. I’m wrecked.
“How am I going to get through this and tell my son. How am I going to pick my self up off the floor and be a mother to him.
“Please creator help me this can’t be real. It just can’t be real.”
Crystle also shared some headshots of Georgina that were taken just a fortnight ago, as she said: “These photos represent her better than the photo that’s going around from a roll she played in Trickster. I love you mommy.”
Meanwhile, Georgina’s close friend Kim Mathias wrote on Facebook: “Seeing how many lives she touched helps a lil with the immense shock and sadness…
“She had determination, vision, and the ability to turn those visions into reality. No matter the obstacles, she’d find a way thru.
“Most of all, she was an absolutely good friend who came from an equally wonderful family.”
And another of her friends, Fabrienne Grisel, added: “I’m deeply saddened to hear of Georgina Lightning‘s passing. She and her family were an important part of my life when I first came to the United States, and they will always hold a very special place in my heart.
“I will always remember their kindness and the part they played in my life during that time. This is truly heartbreaking news to hear today.
“My deepest condolences to the whole family… RIP Georgina.”
As well as Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, Georgina starred in TV shows including Trickster, Three Pines and DreamKeeper.
