Hollywood star Dave Franco glad to get his ‘own due’

Dave Franco is glad to have stepped out of his brother’s shadow.

Dave Franco feels he’s finally getting his “own due”.

The 41-year-old actor grew up in the shadow of his older brother, Hollywood star James Franco, but Dave is thrilled to have stepped out on his own in recent years.

During an appearance on the Armchair Expert podcast, Dave explained: “It’s a complicated thing where I love my brother, and I’m so grateful for the advice he gave me coming through this business, and just even watching how he navigated certain situations.

“I’m always grateful for that. But I think in recent years, I’ve kind of gone down my path long enough that people have started to give me my own due.”

Dave – who has been married to actress Alison Brie since 2017 – explained that he’s “worked [his] a** off” in order to step out of James’ shadow.

The actor also opened up about his relationship with social media, observing that he’s “a little on the outside sometimes”.

Dave explained: “I’m just blissfully unaware; I don’t even know what the trends are, and because of that, I actually do feel a little on the outside sometimes.

“Where I’m like, I don’t know what people are talking about. I don’t know what the latest trends are. Is that affecting my own creativity of what I’m putting out there? Where I want it to be relevant. I want it to hit the zeitgeist. But like, so there is fear of that, I guess, of just not being tapped into what’s happening.”

On the flipside, Dave avoids the “mental anguish” that social media platforms can cause.

The movie star – who had his film breakthrough in 21 Jump Street, the 2012 comedy movie – said: “I just know for me, no shame to anyone else, I get the advantage of it. I get why it’s so addictive. I get all this stuff, but it just scares me.

“I just don’t want to put myself out there to a bunch of strangers who inevitably will tear me down every single day. I don’t want that negativity in my life on a daily basis. I love it.”
