Benny Blanco denies using ‘black magic’ to win over Selena Gomez

Benny Blanco has jokingly denied using “black magic” to get now-wife Selena Gomez to fall for him.

The 38-year-old producer opened up about his relationship with singer-and-actress Selena during an appearance on the Today show on Sunday (13.09.26), as he was asked about the secret behind the pair’s picture perfect relationship.

He joked: “I didn’t use, like, black magic or anything… I just was nice!”

Benny continued: “It’s like understanding your partner and being able to talk about things, and have an open dialogue.

“Yeah, we’re in a really good spot, and I’m very fortunate.

“And I think, again, not being a d*** and being nice to people put her in my orbit.”

Benny’s admission comes after he previously admitted he’d created a list in a bid to manifest his wife before meeting and wooing Selena.

Among the three requirements on his list was someone “age-appropriate”, followed by “someone who’s nice”.

He added: “Nice, caring, compassionate, like someone who’s a nice person.”

The third thing on Benny’s list was “someone who woke up generally happy”.

During his chat on The Mel Robbins Podcast, Benny admitted it was his therapist’s suggestion for him to write a list, after he previously said: “I really wanna find the right partner, and I’m doing something wrong. I can’t find the person that I’m gonna spend the rest of my life with, and I want to do that.”

Selena and Benny first went public with their relationship in December 2023, after the singer liked a fan account’s posts of her and her other half and commented of Benny: “He is my absolute everything in my heart”.

The couple announced their engagement on Instagram in December 2024, and tied the knot in September 2025.

Benny spoke about their wedding day during a chat on his Friends Keep Secrets podcast, as he said: “We rented a palm tree farm and converted it into a — we just wanted to do something unconventional.

“She’s like, ‘I want to walk down the aisle and I want the aisle to be, like, Persian rugs off centred. I don’t want normal flowers. I don’t want it to feel bougie.’

“So it was incredible and you could tell we put so much effort into it, but also didn’t feel stuffy.”
