The Oscar-winning actor directed and produced The Thomas Crown Affair remake, as well as starring in it, but told Vogue that once he’s done on the promo trail for the film, he’s keen to take a step back.
Michael B. Jordan is planning to take the rest of the year off after The Thomas Crown Affair is released next March.
The Oscar-winning actor directed and produced the remake, as well as starring in it, but told Vogue that once he’s done on the promo trail for the film, he’s keen to take a step back.
He said: “I’ll probably take the rest of next year off. That’s probably when I’m going to do more reflecting and processing of all of this. Because honestly, it’s been — I’ve been moving.”
He later added: “I might just quit it all and make anime the rest of my life!”
Michael cemented his role as one of Hollywood’s top leading men with his Oscar win for Sinners last March, taking home the golden statue over competitors Leonardo DiCaprio, Ethan Hawke, Timothée Chalamet and Wagner Moura.
But being on the Oscar promo trail, and his eventual win, took its toll, with Michael adding that he fell ill the day after the Oscars itself.
He mused: “Like, you reached the finish line, and your body said, ‘Alright, I got you here, time to shut down for a second!’”
However, the toll wasn’t enough to make Michael rethink his position in Hollywood.
Asked if he could be happy being a working actor rather than a leading men, Michael replied: “I don’t know. My competitiveness — I don’t know.
“I don’t think so. Whatever I wanted to do in life, I wanted to be competitive at, and I wanted to be mentioned amongst the greats.”
And Vogue asked some of the greats for their opinions on Michael and his talent, including Kenneth Branagh, who stars in The Thomas Crown Affair, and Ben Affleck.
Ben, who has become something of a mentor to Michael, as well as his friend, told Vogue: “He’s kind of like a Cary Grant, but more physically imposing and masculine.
“He can go across all these different genres: totally credible as a fighter, totally credible as somebody who’s vulnerable, totally credible also as an extremely intelligent person.
“I always see his movies and go, That’s the real him. No, that’s the real him!”
