Liam Gallagher has angered Liverpudlians and Beatles fans after claiming Oasis did more for Liverpool than The Beatles and “put them back on the map.”
Liam Gallagher has riled up Liverpudlians and Beatles fans with his latest jibe.
It’s well documented that Oasis were inspired by the legendary Liverpool group, with the 54-year-old frontman of the Britpop group even naming his son Lennon, 27, after late frontman John Lennon.
But when it comes to his beloved football team, Manchester City – who are rivals of Liverpool FC – he doesn’t care who he insults.
This time, he’s claimed Oasis “put The Beatles back on the map”, and also took aim at any Liverpudlians dissing his band and home team.
Liam posted to X: “All these Scousers giving me and my band s, Oasis have done more for the city of Liverpool than they will ever do. Oasis put the Beatles back on the map which they no doubt directly profit from, ungrateful little sods MCFC LG x. (sic)”
The bold statement landed comments like: “TBF Liam if it wasn’t for the Beatles you’d be working in Home Bargains..”
Another X user replied: “I like Oasis. However you’re not even a footnote compared to the Beatles.”
Liam has playfully taken aim at The Beatles before. He previously boasted that his 2024 self‑titled album with John Squire was “bigger” than the Fab Four’s 1966 classic Revolver, the record that produced Eleanor Rigby and Yellow Submarine. In 2023 he told one X user: “It’s the best record since” Revolver. When another follower called it a “big statement”, Liam fired back: “What’s coming your way is bigger… I’m being humble, it p* all over it.”
Proving it’s all bravado, Liam hilariously once quipped: “The Beatles could s* in my hand bag I’d still hide my polo mints in there.”
