Linda Hamilton has revealed whether or not she she wants to play Sarah Connor in Terminator 7.
Linda Hamilton has no interest in returning for Terminator 7.
The 70-year-old actress, who first starred as Sarah Connor in the original 1984 sci-fi action blockbuster, reprised the role in 1991’s Terminator 2: Judgment Day and 2019’s Terminator: Dark Fate, but she is “surprised” to hear James Cameron is working on another movie in the longrunning franchise.
She told JustWatch: “He did say another? He said that? I’m out. I’m out!
“I don’t know, the last one [Dark Fate] didn’t perform well, financially, so I’m very surprised to hear there’s gonna be another one. Thanks for the news!”
Despite being well received by critics and fans, the movie flopped and box office, and reportedly lost Paramount, Skydance and other studios $122.6 million.
Hamilton had a message of support for anyone getting involved, but still seemed sceptical.
She added: “You know, I wish everyone well. It’s just… we’ll see what happens next.”
In December last year, Cameron opened up on the challenges he faces making Terminator work in the modern age.
He told io9: “I’ve got a stack of notes this thick [holds fingers about three inches apart], which is how I start all my scripts, on what I want to do with a new Terminator film.
“I’m going to pour myself into that as a writer. It’s difficult. I have to tell you. Science fiction has caught up and is actually overwhelming us at this point.
“We’re living in a science fiction world, and we’re literally having to deal with problems that in the past only existed in science fiction books and movies. Now we’re living it for real.”
Around the same time, Cameron revealed that Arnold Schwarzenegger wouldn’t be back as T-800 in the next movie.
He told The Hollywood Reporter: “I can safely say he won’t be [in it].
“It’s time for a new generation of characters. I insisted Arnold had to be involved in Terminator: Dark Fate, and it was a great finish to him playing the T-800.
“There needs to be a broader interpretation of Terminator and the idea of a time war and super intelligence. I want to do new stuff that people aren’t imagining.”
When asked whether he had cracked the premise of the next Terminator movie, Cameron teased he was “working on it”.
The Titanic director also confirmed he was looking to return to the Terminator series after he is finished with Avatar.
He said: “Once the dust clears on Avatar in a couple of months, I’m going to really plunge into that.
“There are a lot of narrative problems to solve. The biggest is how do I stay enough ahead of what’s really happening to make it science fiction?”
The most recent entry in the Avatar series, Avatar: Fire and Ash, hit the big screen in December 2025,
