Normal People star Daisy Edgar-Jones has revealed the grounding “words of wisdom” her father, Big Brother co-creator Philip Edgar-Jones, gave her before she achieved fame.
Daisy Edgar-Jones has told how her father, one of the co-creators behind British reality TV series Big Brother, gave her some essential “words of wisdom” before she shot to fame.
The 28-year-old actress became a household name when she appeared in limited TV series Normal People in 2020, and she remains extremely grateful to her dad, British television executive and producer Philip Edgar-Jones, for advising her to remain grounded during her ascent to fame.
Speaking to Jenna Bush Hager on her Open Book with Jenna podcast, Daisy said about her father’s advice:
“[He] essentially said, ‘There might be some things that will shift for you, and here’s just some words I’ve learned of wisdom.
“‘Which is that you might not change, but the world around you might, and the way people interact with you might, and so remembering that you haven’t changed, that you are who you are and you are the same person that you were pre all of this is really important to keep your feet on the floor.’ “
Daisy also told how her father advised her to remember she is “an individual amongst lots of people with all their own stuff going on and inner lives”.
She took his advice after seeing several stars created from reality TV show Big Brother, on which individuals would “come in anonymous and leave very, very famous”.
Daisy has also been inspired by her father to try to leave a great impression on everyone she meets.
Explaining that his reputation in the entertainment industry has set a high standard for her own career, she added: “Every time I meet anyone who’s worked with my dad, they always say he’s the nicest man in television, which is such a lovely legacy.
“And I’m really proud of him for that.
“I’m proud of him for so many things, but I suppose if I’ve learned from that, it would be nice if that could be my legacy in some way that when you interact with someone, you leave a nice taste in their mouth or a nice flavour.
“That would be something I’m very proud of.”
