Hilary Duff loves seeing teenagers copying her style from 20 years ago.
The pop star/actress embraced nostalgia on her recent tours which celebrated her hits from the 2000s and Hilary has admitted she’s particularly enjoyed seeing youngsters delivering their own take on Y2K style – however, she’s not tempted to slip back into the “low-rise jeans” herself.
She told Paper magazine: “I’m actually super glad low-rise jeans are back. I don’t think I could wear skin-tight low-rise jeans like I used to, but a baggy low-rise jean, I’m super into.
“And I kind of like that the fashion choices don’t always make sense. It has this air of, we don’t care and we’re cool.
“I think some of my choices back then were a little too mismatched, and I’m happy to leave that in the past. But the pressure is gone, which is nice.
“Seeing kids dressed like that makes me so happy, because it takes me back, but I don’t actually want to be 17. I don’t even want to be 25.”
Hilary went on to joke she’s still traumatised by the shawls she wore back in the 2000s, but she’s embraced the era’s “baggy” theme and made sure it featured in her The Lucky Me shows.
She explained: “Remember when baggy started happening again, and it was like, you have to have a tight top with a baggy bottom, or a tight bottom with a baggy top?
“Now it’s baggy on baggy. Let’s go. Let’s f****** go. Honestly, that was a big part of my show. I was like, I want baggy jeans, I want a baggy T-shirt.
“I want to feel how I feel when I come home after a long day. I want nothing to go in any crevice.”
It comes after Hilary previously admitted she is “haunted” by her past fashion choices as well as her “tragic” hair colour and obsession with eyeliner.
In an interview with The Sunday Times newspaper, Hilary was asked if she would delete any outfits from her fashion history and she named the outfit she wore to the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards in 2003 which featured a multi-coloured crochet top with a ruffled mini-skirt and high-heeled sneakers.
She said: “You mean all of my pictures from the 2000s? Yes! … There was this crochet skirt/top situation worn with weird heeled sneaker-booties to the Kids’ Choice awards.
“It was all pastel and scalloped edges, and it really haunts me. There’s also my tragic hair colour and how many accessories I could fit in my hair.
“Part of it was endearing and part of it was … is she OK?”
Hilary went on to insist she wishes she hadn’t microbladed her eyebrows and added of her make-up: “I hit the eyeliner pretty hard in my twenties, so I’d tell her to tone it down a little.”
