Lucien Laviscount “doesn’t necessarily” believe in marriage.
The Emily in Paris actor doesn’t have fixed ideas of what the future holds for him in terms of having a family of his own, but he doesn’t think going through the formal process of a wedding is essential to prove a lasting commitment.
Asked if he sees marriage or children in the future, he told People magazine: “Whatever happens happens, yeah. I think it depends on the person, depends on the time.
“I don’t necessarily believe you need a piece of paper to show that you love someone.
“I’ll say it this way, my parents got married two years ago. They’ve been together for 40 plus years. So it’s like the idea of what marriage is to me is my partner, it’s a commitment that we are going to be there for each other forever.
“And kids, I’d love to be a father, but at the same time, if it happens, it happens.”
Lucien’s friend and co-star, Lucas Bravo, thinks the 34-year-old star would be a “great” dad.
Lucas told his pal: “You’d be a great father…
“You’re a caretaker. You see everything, you understand things, dynamic and people. I think I also believe that everybody’s trying to change the world on Instagram or on huge scales, but I think you’d change the world by the way you raise your kids and what kind of humans you’re going to bring into the future.
“And I think we’d be lucky if there’s more of you with your principles and values. I’m campaigning to be godfather.”
Lucien replied: “Likewise, bro. The knowledge and the wisdom that you’d be able to pass on to your kids, it’d be incredible. That’s probably one of the most beautiful things you could probably say to someone: You could be a good father.”
The two actors have been firm friends since meeting on the set of Emily in Paris and, though the show is ending later this year, they know they’ll always be in one another’s lives.
Asked what they’ll miss about working together, Lucien said: “The knowledge, the love, the care, the affection you have, not just for me but for everyone. I think that your ability to communicate your emotions and how you feel is… I’ve never been around anyone that can communicate the way you do.
“And then also the laughs, man, the good times. When I get a call from him, a FaceTime, I’m just laughing. So I’m going to miss that, but I also know that I’ve got you for the rest of my life.
“The next chapter that we step into as brothers, as friends, is going to be just as magical.”
Lucas added: “I’m going to miss this feeling that when you’re in town, I’m never truly alone. Whenever I get in my head, I know that I can call you.
“You know how to speak to me. Not everybody does. I have a hard time understanding myself sometimes, but you always know what to tell me.
“I went through a little phase this season in particular, and you took me out of bed and brought me to a Bad Bunny concert, and just brought me back to life. And that’s precious. I mean, someone who doesn’t ask questions, just forces you back into the light is always precious.”
Lucien observed: “That’s brotherhood, man.”
