Sir Patrick Stewart died on Wednesday (28.10.26) at his home in Los Angeles, following a battle with Alzheimer’s disease and Lewy body dementia.
Sir Patrick Stewart’s estranged son has paid tribute to the legendary actor following his death at the age of 86.
The Star Trek icon died on Wednesday (28.10.26) at his home in Los Angeles, following a battle with Alzheimer’s disease and Lewy body dementia. He was 86.
Hours after his death was announced on Thursday (29.10.26), actor Daniel Stewart, 59, shared a sweet photo of himself giving Patrick a piggyback ride during a 2001 production of Johnson Over Jordan at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds, England, on X.
However, he shared the photo without a caption, prompting fans to leave messages of condolence in the post’s comments section.
One penned: “Daniel, I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your father. He was loved and admired by so many people. I wish the best for you and your family as you grieve.”
A second supporter typed: “What a wonderful person. Brought so much joy to so many people. So sorry for the loss of your wonderful Dad. Thinking of you and the family.”
And a third follower wrote: “Your dad was a father figure to many of us just by watching him perform. My condolences.”
Just three years before his death, Patrick spoke of his “significant grief” over being estranged from Daniel and daughter Sophie, 54, whom he had with his first wife, 81-year-old actress Sheila Falconer, because of putting work first.
He told the Irish Independent: “Given that I’m separated from my children now – we don’t have relationships – they have become very important.
“I never thought this would happen, but both my children are in their 50s – they’re not children anymore, they’re adults. And my relationship with them is practically non-existent.”
The X-Men entertainer added that “not a day goes by” when he is not “pained by the memory of my children, who they were and by a sense of responsibility that they became who they are in part because of me and my influence or lack of influence on them”.
And Patrick took full responsibility for his strained relationship with Daniel and Sophie.
He admitted: “I always put my acting work first, before my family.
“I could’ve done better as a parent when my kids were little. I was just obsessed with my work, and everything else took second place.
“I’m trying to correct that now whenever possible with my grandchildren. And my own children seem to have forgiven me.”
After the Logan alum and Sheila divorced in 1990 after 24 years, he tied the knot with TV producer Wendy Neuss, now 72, in 2000, and their marriage lasted just three years.
Patrick married singer-songwriter Sunny Ozell, now 47, in 2013, and they remained together until his death, which was announced via a post on social media on Thursday (29.10.26).
His family confirmed that he passed away at his home in Los Angeles, following a battle with Alzheimer’s disease and Lewy body dementia.
The statement read: “We announce with great sorrow the passing of Sir Patrick Stewart yesterday at his home in Los Angeles, in the loving care of his beloved wife Sunny, following a brief and poignant journey with Alzheimer’s disease and Lewy Body dementia.
“He has been held in the warm embrace of family and friends, surrounded by live music, prayers, tears, laughter, and the kind of profound emotion that only he could inspire after a lifetime of devotion to all of us.
“We will forever cherish the peaceful ease and reflection on his face, an enduring reminder of his invincible grace.”
