Amazon has appointed a new “shadow” to CEO Andy Jassy.

Alex Dunlap will work as shadow advisor to the tech giant’s boss, and will be by his side on all important calls.

The role was previously known as “technical advisor”, according to Business Insider, and has an average tenure of 18 months to two years.

It is often seen as a stepping stone to higher positions within the company, having previously been held by Jeffer Helbling – who is currently the Vice President of Amazon Shipping Business, and it was previously held by Eric Rimling, the former Vice Presiedent of Global Specialty Fulfillment.

According to his LinkedIn, Dunlap began working at Amazon Web Serves in 2007 as Product Manager before working his way up through various other positions such as Chief Operating Officer and General Manager of Productivity.

Prior to accepting his new role, he had acted as Amazon Web Services (AWS) logo Vice President, Productivity Apps of AWS Applications since April 2024.
