Donald Trump has given TikTok a 75-day extension to find a buyer.
The 47th President of the United States signed an executive order following his inauguration on Monday (20.01.25), allowing the platform to follow a law that requires either a sale or ban of the ByteDance-owned platform.
He once again hinted at owning a 50 per cent partnership between the US and the Chinese tech firm, but the 78-year-old politician did not elaborate on how it would work.
It comes as President Joe Biden’s administration gave ByteDance until January 19 to find a non-Chinese buyer, or face a full ban in US.
As the firm refused to find a buyer, the Supreme Court upheld the law – the implementation of which was left by the Biden administration to the Trump White House due to the date – on Friday (17.01.25), meaning the app fell dark on Sunday (19.01.25).
However, the service was resorted over the weekend as President Trump promised that TikTok will remain – and he will not enforce the law that was passed by Congress last year and inked by former President Biden.
According to BBC News, he told reporters in the Oval Office: “I tell you what. Every rich person has called me about TikTok.”
