Daisy Ridley and Alden Ehrenreich will star in ‘The Last Resort’.

The ‘Magpie’ actress and the ‘Cocaine Bear’ actor have signed up to appear in Donald Petrie’s romantic comedy, which is set in the Philippines and will begin production next month, Deadline reports.

‘Legally Blonde’ writer Karen McCullah has penned the script, and the film follows Brooke (Ridley), a young woman who is determined to prove she can run her father’s hotel empire.

When she travels to the Philippines in search of a new resort location, she meets ex-pat pilot Ben (Ehrenreich) who helps her discover both the beauty of the country, and a new sense of freedom, which leaves Brooke having to make a choice between her old life and the new one she’s started to fall in love with.

Asia Pacific Films are producing and financing the project, while CAA Media Finance will handle worldwide distribution rights.

Daisy has just seen her latest movie, zombie thriller ‘We Bury the Dead’ premiere at SXSW festival, while Alden is currently shooting ‘Switzerland’ opposite Dame Helen Mirren and recently wrapped work on ‘Weapons’, which is due for release next year. He’s also set to appear in limited series ‘Ironheart’, a ‘Black Panther’ spin-off.

Meanwhile, Daisy is set to return to the ‘Star Wars’ universe as Rey Skywalker in ‘Star Wars: New Jedi Order’.

Various writers have been attached to the film – which was first announced at Star Wars Celebration in London in 2023 but doesn’t yet have a release date – with ‘The Bourne Ultimatum’ scribe George Nolfi currently crafting the screenplay.

Despite fan frustration, the 32-year-old actress recently insisted it is a positive thing that there isn’t currently a fixed release date because it gives more “freedom” behind the scenes to tell the best possible story.

She told The Hollywood Reporter: “People have talked about it a lot that the release date often affects films and how quickly things go into production. So the freedom to make sure that this [‘New Jedi Order’] script is the best way to tell this story is wonderful, and I don’t think any fans would want it to be rushed. The wait will be worth it.

“I know what George is working on, and he is a phenomenal writer. So I’m really looking forward to reading it, and yes, it’s all worthwhile.”
