Gal Gadot: Wonder Woman success was life-changing

Gal Gadot admits that starring in the ‘Wonder Woman’ franchise has changed her life.

Gal Gadot’s ‘Wonder Woman’ success has been “life-changing”.

The 39-year-old actress played the central character in the 2017 superhero movie, and Gal admits that it’s changed the course of her career.

Gal – who reprised the role in ‘Justice League’ and ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ – told Variety: “To do the solo ‘Wonder Woman’ movie with a partner like Patty Jenkins was life-changing.

“I think we both felt like we were just a vessel to tell a story that is much bigger than us, that the world was ready for – a complete, empowered woman who is strong and at the same time vulnerable.”

Patty, 53, directed the 2017 film, and she relished the experience of working with Gal, describing the actress as a “top-tier, classic movie star”.

The filmmaker shared: “My favourite moments with Gal have been when she donned the Wonder Woman costume to greet children in need. Of course it’s touching to watch kids seeing their hero come to life, but with Gal, it is not just an illusion of our trade.

“She is a great actor, but a true star as a person, inside and out.

“There are so many great actors and performers around, but a top-tier, classic movie star who can light up a screen, be your hero, your lover, your friend and your avatar on screen are few and far between. Gal is one of them.”

Gal has become one of the most sought-after actresses in Hollywood since leading the ‘Wonder Woman’ franchise. But the film star admits that she actually fell into acting by accident.

The actress – who made her movie debut in 2009, as Gisele Yashar in ‘Fast and Furious’ – said: “I was a dancer for 12 years, but acting was never something that I did.

“After I graduated, I went to study law and as a side job, I was doing some modelling. And one thing led to the other and a casting director for James Bond wanted to test me for the Bond girl [in ‘Quantum of Solace’].”

Although she missed out on the Bond role, the experience prompted Gal to reconsider her career ambitions.

The actress – who is currently starring alongside Rachel Zegler in ‘Snow White’ – explained: “I discovered something that I absolutely loved doing. And one thing led to the other, and my first role in the movies was in ‘Fast and Furious’.”

Gal made her first appearance as Wonder Woman in 2016’s ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’, and the actress credits Zack Snyder – the film’s director – for having a long-term vision for the iconic character.

She said: “Zack Snyder really had the vision for Wonder Woman.”
