Google Chrome to auto-change compromised passwords

A new Google Chrome change will see the web browser able to detect a compromised password and Google Password Manager will give the user an opportunity to alert it.

Google has confirmed the introduction of a new automated password change in Chrome.

When a user is signing in, Chrome can detect a compromised password and Google Password Manager will then automatically give the user an opportunity to change it.

Google said in a new blog post: “On supported websites, Chrome can generate a strong replacement and update the password for the user automatically.

“This reduces friction and helps users to keep their account secure, without hunting through account settings or abandoning the process partway.”

In the post, Google also told how password managers can “do more than just store passwords”.

The company added: “They help prevent phishing by only offering credentials when the domain matches. But users can still run into problems when your service spans multiple domains and platforms.”

Examples of such issues include offering multiple domains or apps that accept the same login, and also signing into the Android add and then visiting the website on a laptop.
