HSBC UK chief executive Ian Stuart has told how the company are spending “enormous” sums on cybersecurity, because they are being “attacked all the time”.
A UK bank boss has told how cybersecurity is “very much at the top of the agenda” – because they are being “attacked all the time”.
Following the recent swarm of cyberattacks, which hit companies including Marks and Spencer and Co-op, HSBC UK chief executive Ian Stuart admitted electronic invasions keep him awake at night.
He told the Treasury Committee of MPs: “It does keep me awake.
“Because we can be attacked and we are being attacked all the time.
“Cybersecurity is now very much at the top of our agenda.”
Ian confirmed HSBC are spending “enormous” sums on cybersecurity to protect HSBC UK.
What’s more, Lloyds Bank chief executive Charlie Nunn described the UK as the “home of fraud”.
Earlier this month, Marks and Spencer urged customers to reset their passwords after confirming personal data was taken by hackers.
But CEO Stuart Machin insisted “usable payment or card details” were not stolen by hackers, because the company “do not hold [such details] on our systems”.
He said: “To give customers extra peace of mind, they will be prompted to reset their password the next time they visit or log on to their M S account and we have shared information on how to stay safe online.”
