Jamie Lee Curtis cries over Charlie Kirk death despite condemning ‘abhorrent’ views

Freakier Friday star Jamie Lee Curtis hopes Charlie Kirk “felt connected with his faith” when he died.

Jamie Lee Curtis broke down in tears talking about the death of Charlie Kirk.

The 66-year-old actress – who is an outspoken Democrat and found the right wing political activist’s views “abhorrent” – still became emotional as she reflected on his murder last week aged 31.

Speaking on the WTF with Marc Maron podcast, she said: “I disagreed with him on almost every point I ever heard him say, but I believe he was a man of faith, and I hope in that moment when he died, that he felt connected with his faith.”

The Freakier Friday star started to cry as she added: “Even though I find what he, his ideas were abhorrent to me. I still believe he’s a father and a husband and a man of faith.

“And I hope whatever connection to God means that he felt it.”

Jamie pointed out her fears about the “longitudinal effects of seeing” the footage of his death.

She said: “I know there is video of his assassination. I know people who’ve seen it.

The Zapruder film is the only visual document that moves, that shares that horror of what happened [to President John F. Kennedy in 1963]. But here we have now these images.

“And we are inured to them and we are numb to them, but they are in there.

“We don’t know enough psychologically about what that does. What does that do? That kind of — I don’t ever want to see this footage of this man being shot.”

Suspect Tyler Robinson, 22, was arrested last week following a 33-hour manhunt, which ended when his father convinced him to hand himself in to the police.

He has been accused of fatally shooting Kirk at Utah Valley University, and is facing aggravated murder charges.

His motivate remains unclear.

Last week, late night hosts Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel condemned “senseless” violence.

Jimmy wrote on Instagram: “Instead of the angry finger-pointing, can we just for one day agree that it is horrible and monstrous to shoot another human?

“On behalf of my family, we send love to the Kirks and to all the children, parents and innocents who fall victim to senseless gun violence.”

And Stephen added on the Late Show: “I am old enough to personally remember the political violence of the 1960s, and I hope it is obvious to everyone in America that political violence does not solve any of our political differences.

“Political violence only leads to more political violence. And I pray with all my heart that this is the aberrant action of a madman and not a sign of things to come.”
