Samsung ‘to compete with iPhone video by bringing ProRes rival to Galaxy S26’

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S26 series is rumoured to add a ProRes-style video codec alongside major display, camera, and performance upgrades, positioning the phones as both iPhone rivals and professional creator tools.

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S26 series could reportedly include a ProRes video recording rival.

According to leaker Ice Universe, Samsung is looking to bring a new pro video feature to its upcoming flagships, with the S26s said to support a new APV codec designed to compete with Apple’s ProRes.

The supposed new feature would allow Galaxy S26 devices to capture high-quality video with greater colour accuracy and compression efficiency, marking Samsung’s most serious push yet into professional-grade smartphone filming.

ProRes has long been a standout feature of Apple’s iPhone Pro line, which debuted in 2021 with the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max.

It’s been suggested Samsung will bundle this upgrade with improved AI-powered processing, aimed at helping creators edit and share large video files more easily.

Beyond video, other rumours about the Galaxy S26 range have also emerged.

According to reports, the S26 Ultra could feature Samsung’s brightest-ever AMOLED display, potentially topping 3,000 nits of peak brightness.

Camera upgrades are also expected, with talk of a new one-inch main sensor for better low-light performance.

Performance could be supercharged too, as the S26 series is tipped to run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chip in some areas, with the Exynos 2600 powering the devices in other regions.

Leaks suggest the new Snapdragon processor could deliver significant gains in both gaming and AI tasks.

Battery life may also improve, with rumours pointing to more efficient hardware and software optimisation rather than physically larger cells.

Meanwhile, Samsung is reportedly experimenting with a slimmer design and titanium frames for the Ultra model, mirroring Apple’s iPhone 15 and 16 Pros.

The Galaxy S26 line is expected to launch in early 2026, though details remain unconfirmed.

If the leaks prove accurate, Samsung could be positioning its flagship phones not just as iPhone rivals, but as tools for professional creators.
