Bungie is inviting fans to participate in a technical test of Marathon.
The upcoming sci-fi shooter has so far had a rocky development and was delayed, but Bungie has now announced it will be running a closed technical test of Marathon in North America and Europe from October 22-28.
In a statement, the studio wrote: “This is an important checkpoint for us as we test our improvements since Alpha, including three maps, five runner shells, prox chat, re-tuned combat pacing, solo queue, deeper environmental storytelling, and more.
“That said, the Technical Test build is a work in progress and will only include a portion of what’s planned for Marathon’s full release, focused on the early player experience.”
PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S users can apply to take part in the test on Bungie’s website from now until October 16, while fans on Steam can sign up from October 13-26.
Following that, Bungie will release a public update on Marathon’s development.
Marathon was initially due to launch on September 23, 2025, though was pushed back to an unconfirmed date before March 2026 after receiving “varied” player feedback.
Bungie said at the time of the game’s delay in June: “We’ve taken this to heart, and we know we need more time to craft Marathon into the game that truly reflects your passion.
“After much discussion within our Dev team, we’ve made the decision to delay the September 23 release.”
