Xbox Game Pass price increases won’t hit existing subscribers in some countries ‘for now’

Microsoft has confirmed that recent Xbox Game Pass price increases will not affect existing subscribers in select countries such as Germany, India, and South Korea “for now”.

Microsoft has clarified that its latest round of Xbox Game Pass price increases will not affect existing subscribers in certain regions “for now”.

The company confirmed that current Game Pass members in markets such as Germany, Ireland, India and South Korea will maintain their current pricing as of now, provided their auto-renewal remains active.

However, new subscribers – or those resubscribing after a cancellation – will be subject to the updated rates.

An email from Microsoft sent to subscribers in some regions reads: “At this time, these increases will only affect new purchases and will not affect your current subscription for the market in which you reside, as long as you are on an auto-recurring plan.

“Should you choose to cancel your plan and repurchase, you will be charged at the new current rate.”

Xbox recently increased the price of Game Pass Ultimate by 50 per cent to $29.99 a month.

The PC Game Pass tier also saw an increase, now priced at $11.99 a month.

Head of Xbox communications Kari Perez told The Verge: “Our recent Game Pass update remains unchanged.

“Current subscribers in certain countries will continue renewing at their existing price for now, in line with local requirements. We’ll provide advance notice before price adjustments take effect in these countries.”
