Star Wars: Eclipse is still in development, Quantic Dream confirms

Quantic Dream has confirmed that Star Wars: Eclipse is still in development as the studio expands into new territory with its first competitive multiplayer project.

Quantic Dream has reassured fans that Star Wars: Eclipse is still in active development.

In a statement published on the Quantic Dream blog, studio founder David Cage reflected on nearly three decades of storytelling innovation, confirming that Eclipse – first announced at The Game Awards 2021 – remains a key focus for the developer.

He said: “Of course, development of Star Wars: Eclipse continues, and we are eager to share more with you in the future.”

Star Wars: Eclipse, set in the High Republic era of the Star Wars timeline, promises to deliver the developer’s signature cinematic storytelling on an unprecedented scale.

However, since its reveal, the project has faced reports of delays and long production timelines, with insiders citing Quantic Dream’s expansion and technical ambitions as key factors behind the slow rollout.

Over the past few years, the French studio has doubled its workforce, opened a new office in Montreal, and transitioned into a multi-project developer and publisher.

Alongside Eclipse, one of these new projects is a competitive multiplayer title, a major departure from the studio’s traditional narrative-driven experiences such as Heavy Rain and Detroit: Become Human.

Cage acknowledged that the move into multiplayer gaming represents a risk for the studio.

He said: “Taking risks, challenging ourselves, exploring new ways of playing and telling stories… has always been part of our DNA.”

While no release date has been given for Star Wars: Eclipse, Cage’s latest comments confirm that development is ongoing and that the project remains central to Quantic Dream’s future.
