Resident Evil 0 remake ‘in the works’

Capcom is reportedly developing a full remake of Resident Evil 0 under the codename “Project Chamber,” with new story elements, a fresh cast, and a planned 2028 release.

A full remake of Resident Evil 0 is reportedly in development at Capcom.

According to a report from MP1st, the horror prequel – originally released in 2002 – is being rebuilt under the codename Project Chamber, a nod to protagonist Rebecca Chambers.

Sources told the outlet that the remake has been quietly in development for years, with motion capture said to have started at some point in 2024.

The project is reportedly being helmed by Beyond Capture Studios, which previously collaborated with Capcom on Resident Evil 4 Remake and Street Fighter 6.

Actor Jon McLaren, best known for voicing Star-Lord in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, is reportedly listed in his professional resume as taking a lead role in the project, prompting speculation that he will portray Billy Coen, Rebecca’s co-protagonist.

Like previous entries in Capcom’s modern remake series, the Resident Evil 0 remake is said to expand on the original story while remaining faithful to its core narrative.

Early details suggest a more cinematic presentation, including new sequences aboard the game’s infamous train setting.

One scene reportedly features a treacherous train conductor who betrays Rebecca – a completely new plotline not present in the original.

Insiders also claim that Resident Evil: Code Veronica will release first, potentially in early 2027, before the supposed Resident Evil 0 remake follows the next year.

If accurate, Capcom’s remake roadmap would continue the series’ modern renaissance, reimagining its classic survival horror titles.
