The Desperate Housewives actress insisted it isn’t a problem if people want to go under the knife to feel better about themselves but she called on those in the public eye to be honest about work they have had done so that others aren’t concerned about having to match unrealistic expectations naturally.
Speaking on the Skinny Confidential Him + Her podcast, she said: “I have no judgement about how anybody feels good about themselves in their life.
“I don’t love when people aren’t truthful about it.
“When you’re famous and you lie, you’re sort of making the rest of us feel bad about ourselves. Because we look at you and we go, ‘I guess I’m not drinking enough water.’ And that is unfair.”
Teri insisted she has no desire to go under the knife herself because she wants audiences to look at her on screen and see “a real 60-year-old woman.”
She added: “For now – I don’t know what might happen that would make me change my mind – but for now, when I look in the mirror and I think, what is lacking? What am I still struggling with? What would I like to be better at? How would I like to be better? How can I find peace? Things I think a lot of people ask of themselves.
“My answer is not a facelift. My answer to myself is internal work, it’s intellectual work, it’s emotional work.”
The Tomorrow Never Dies star candidly admitted that she would likely have surgery if she started focusing on the “wrinkles in [her] neck” but for now, she doesn’t think she’ll find what she’s looking for by changing her appearance.
She said: “I have no judgement about it but I know what I’m searching for. I just know that I have growth to continue to do as a human.
“My instinct isn’t that the answer is in plastic surgery, which is why I’m not doing it.”
Teri tries to be as transparent as possible because she knows comparison “doesn’t just apply to famous people,” but to society as a whole.
She joked: “I look like s***. I don’t wear make-up.”
And while Teri sometimes posts photos of herself at events, she warned: “But the real me is not that.
“I put those things out there because I want people to feel OK about just being themselves.”
