The Simpsons has marked its long-awaited return to Fortnite with a new episode featuring a surprisingly dark couch gag that shocked fans.

The sequence aired during the 795th episode of the animated series, Bad Boys… For Life?, broadcast on Sunday (02.11.25).

In the opening gag, Homer, Marge, Lisa, Maggie and Bart rush into their living room to find several Fortnite characters already seated on their sofa.

As chaos ensues, most of the guests escape – except for Peely, the banana-shaped mascot, who is caught by a laser gun. The next shot shows the family turning him into a giant banana split.

Fans quickly reacted to the moment online.

“I’m going to have nightmares,” wrote one viewer.

Another added: “That’s gore of my comfort character on my timeline.”

A third joked: “What are the vegetarian ethics surrounding eating an anthropomorphic banana? Asking for Lisa Simpson.”

The episode coincided with the launch of The Simpsons’ official crossover with Fortnite, which went live on Saturday (01.11.25) as part of a month-long event.

It marks the first major collaboration between the two franchises in over a decade.

A press release from Epic Games said: “Drop from the Battle Bus into… Springfield? The 80-player Springfield Island features a fast-paced, back-to-basics Battle Royale experience straight from the minds behind The Simpsons. Giant donuts will fall from the sky and angry clones will roam the streets, but don’t worry, Homer Simpson is in charge.

“Check out Delulu for new Simpsons weapons during the Season and prepare for a month of gags, gadgets, and Simpsons animated shorts!”

The collaboration includes four animated shorts airing inside Fortnite via the Quests tab, which will also stream on Disney+. According to Epic Games, the shorts will “preview the mayhem of the week”.

The titles are Apocalypse D’Oh (out November 1), Sugar High (November 10), Multiplidiocy (November 17) and The Incredible Bulk (November 24.)

The event, which runs until the launch of Fortnite: Chapter 7 – Season 1 on 2 December 2025, has been met with widespread enthusiasm.

However, some fans expressed frustration over the lack of recent standalone Simpsons video games following the closure of Tapped Out earlier this year.

One fan wrote on Reddit: “I love seeing all of Springfield recreated in Fortnite, even if I have never touched the game before. It also makes me sad that we haven’t had a good Simpsons video game in how long now?

“Wish a studio like Nightdive got the chance to remaster Hit and Run.”

Another added: “Maybe if The Simpsons stuff in Fortnite sells well, execs will realise there’s a market for a full game.”
