Fallout 3 remaster ‘still in the works at Bethesda’

Bethesda is reportedly still developing a Fallout 3 remaster, as part of the studio’s broader plan to sustain the Fallout franchise amid rising fan interest and the success of the TV adaptation.

A Fallout 3 remaster is reportedly still in active development at Bethesda Game Studios.

According to a new report from VGC, the project – which first surfaced in the massive 2023 Bethesda document leak – appears to be one of the “other things” in the Fallout franchise Todd Howard referenced in his recent GQ interview about The Elder Scrolls VI.

Sources familiar with Bethesda’s roadmap claim that the Fallout 3 remaster is being developed in the same style as this year’s The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered.

The remake of the 2006 RPG provided a modernised update of the game that preserved the original experience, while overhauling visuals, performance, and accessibility for current-gen platforms.

The remaster would likely launch ahead of The Elder Scrolls VI to maintain fan engagement with the Fallout brand.

Despite high hopes among fans, Fallout Day 2025 came and went last month without any official remaster announcements.

The event instead focused on updates for Fallout 4, Fallout 76, and Fallout Shelter.

Howard acknowledged that some fans might be “a little disappointed,” but promised that Bethesda was working on “even more” Fallout-related projects.

The timing makes sense, as interest in the post-apocalyptic franchise is at its highest in years, thanks to the Fallout TV series on Prime Video, which returns for a New Vegas–set second season in December.

While a Fallout 3 remaster is seemingly on the way, there has no word yet on whether Fallout: New Vegas will receive similar treatment.
