Ubisoft ‘developing new sci-fi multiplayer shooter’

Ubisoft is rumoured to be developing Project Scout, a sci-fi multiplayer shooter built in Unreal Engine 5 with crossplay support.

Ubisoft is reportedly developing a new sci-fi multiplayer shooter.

The unannounced title – allegedly codenamed Project Scout – is said to be built in Unreal Engine 5, and is said to feature crossplay and competitive large-scale multiplayer modes.

The claim originated from industry insiders Shiny and 6leaks, who shared supposed concept art and early in-development screenshots.

The screenshots supposedly showed off in-game UI elements, including a crew level indicator and compass interface.

The images suggest a futuristic aesthetic, with armoured characters and sprawling environments that point toward a spacefaring or interplanetary setting.

If true, Project Scout would mark Ubisoft’s first major step into the sci-fi FPS genre – a significant shift for a studio best known for its Rainbow Six tactical shooters and the open-world Far Cry and Assassin’s Creed franchises.

Ubisoft’s last major success in the multiplayer FPS space was Rainbow Six Siege, which continues to maintain a strong player base nearly a decade after launch.

While Ubisoft has not officially commented on Project Scout, the timing aligns with its broader pivot toward online, live-service titles.

The publisher recently doubled down on multiplayer development across its studios following mixed results with XDefiant and The Division Heartland.

No release date, platforms, or official details have been confirmed, but given the use of Unreal Engine 5 and crossplay support, Project Scout could be targeting current-generation consoles and PC.
